Speech and social language therapy for children with autism
We help children on the autism spectrum communicate, connect with others, and use language in social situations.
What is autism and how does it affect communication?
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affects how a child communicates and relates to others. Every child is different: some speak little or not at all; others talk a lot but struggle to use language to converse, request, share, or understand social rules (what we call pragmatic language). Signs often appear before age 2, and early intervention is one of the things that helps most.
How we treat it
We work as a team with the family and with the other professionals who see your child. After the evaluation, therapy focuses on functional communication: requesting, responding, taking turns, looking, playing with others, and reading social cues. We use play and your child's interests as the engine, and when needed we add gestures, pictures, or other communication systems. We show you how to continue at home.
